Specialty Laboratory Management

Functional medicine practitioners frequently order specialty labs not available through standard reference laboratories: organic acids, comprehensive stool analysis, mycotoxin panels, Dutch hormonal tests, food sensitivity panels, and micronutrient assessments. Results arrive as PDFs from specialty labs and need to be stored, referenced, and tracked over time in the patient chart.

Standard EMRs do not integrate with functional medicine specialty labs electronically. These labs often do not participate in standard HL7 lab interfaces. What you need is the ability to attach and annotate PDF results, create custom trend views for tracked biomarkers, and reference these results in clinical notes.

Treatment Protocol Tracking

Functional medicine treatment plans often involve complex supplement protocols, elimination diets, lifestyle interventions, and sequenced pharmaceutical support. These protocols span months and need to be tracked longitudinally: what was started, what was discontinued, what changed at each visit, and why.
